Spanish Fly
Band featuring Steven Bernstein, trumpet, slide trumpret and jokes, David Tronzo, slide guitar Marcus and special guest Ben Perowsky on drums and purcussion.
Spanish Fly a cooperative trio with Steven Bernstein-trumpet, slide trumpet, David Tronzo-slide guitar and Marcus Rojas-tuba, along with special guest Ben Perowsky-drums, percussion. Spanish Fly was formed in 1990 after a brisk walk up 8th Ave-their first cd "Rags To Britches" was produced by legendary polyglot Hal Willner. Now referred to as a 1990's supergroup, Spanish Fly became known for its far ranging repetoire (Nirvana, Hendrix, Ellington), its unconventional instrumentation, and its ability to perform alongside rock groups such as They Might Be Giants, Foetus, Shudder to Think and Cakelike. Their new project is a tribute to Lester Bowie- an important mentor to the band. Marcus was a long time member of Brass Fantasy, and Steven started hanging out with Lester at the age of 16. Spanish Fly was blessed with the opportunity to perform alongside the Art Ensemble on two occasions. The band is performing compositions by Lester, pieces associated with him, and brand new compositions dedicated to his lasting memory.

Kamakazi Ground Crew
The origins of the Kamikaze Ground Crew stretch back to the ‘80s, when they formed as the pit orchestra for the Flying Karamazov Brothers’ Juggling and Cheap Theatrics show on Broadway. Though their name bespeaks a group teetering on the fringes of havoc, in fact this seriously talented collective of musicians has been deftly defying conventions and expectations since their eponymous debut album in 1987. |
